What are you wearing?...

So, it's time to get personal. Those of you who actually get a shower everyday and dress in a career-like fashion, I guess this post won't apply to you. It's not that I am trying to segregate my readers...I would NEVER do that. I like all the different "hats" that share on my site, this is just something I go back and forth about once or twice a week. That's why I ask...What time is it and what are you wearing? I will go first... It is 3:19 in the afternoon and I am wearing the same cut-off sweats and T-shirt I wore to bed last night with an stretched-out, inside out sweatshirt thrown over. No socks or shoes. I do have my make-up and my trendy glasses on but that is simply because I need my glasses to post and if I have my glasses on I MAY catch a glimpse of myself in the monitor - so, I would like to think I look hot from the neck up... Now, I guess I have been brain-washed by my mom who will not walk out to get the mail without spending an hour and a half primping. But, if I thought my husband was coming home for lunch today, I would have probably at least gotten dressed in real clothes - jeans and a sweater. I may have even showered. Is that wrong? I ask you, where does this come from? My sweet hubby has ALWAYS told me that I am beautiful without makeup - he is of 'the lower maintenance, the better' - he loves the unmade beauty, like Halle Berry, Faith Hill, Sandra Bullock. The ones who aren't afraid to be in front of the camera in jeans and a baseball cap. So, what in my brain makes me think I need to get "all gussied up" to be "acceptable" for anyone? "Gussied"? That is a word, right? Anyway, have you ever run into someone at the store who is in baggy sweats, a baseball cap and no make up and they look adorable? Have you ever waited at their car to beat them up later? I have. (j/k) When I go out looking like that someone inevitably asks me, "Are you sick?" or they lovingly comment, "You look tired." I smile and nod and then excuse myself to the parking lot hoping they are parked next to my friend in the baseball cap. Where are my brass knuckles? I have a meeting to go to tonight in which I know should put a bra on for - because that's the grown-up thing to do but I really feel like just throwing on a pair of jeans with my 18 hour t-shirt and calling it an outfit. Who knows what I will wear...we'll see. Guess I will see what my ego feels like around 5:30 - will I feel beautiful or frumpy? How do you feel today? Of course, then I have those days...like last week when I had a babysitter for 5 hours while I ran errands. I was dressed to fit my personality - little bit funky but all put together. Hair, make-up, mani/pedi, cute outfit, perfume and lip gloss. I felt so good! My extra 15 pounds didn't even bother me, I felt good! Until I treated myself to a WHOMPIN' bowl of Germanchocolatecake ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery. Then, I didn't feel so purty. But, here's my thing... When I see a woman all put together, I assume she looks like that ALL day, EVERY day. Do you think she could possibly be bra-less in her 18 hour t-shirt right now? Do you?

Funny!!

It is 4:32 pm and I am sitting here in my jeans and sweatshirt. I did shower today, but no make up. I usually shower during little man's am nap- but jeans and a tee or sweatshirt are pretty much the staple for home time. I do work (I'm a teacher) so when I have to work I do have to wear adult clothes. But being the sleepy mommy to an infant, there is no makeup or styling to the hair - it is wash and wear. Once I get home from work- it is bra off and into the pj's. The bra becomes a necessity for work and out and about - plus, if the goods are not covered, little man thinks he can nurse and nurse and nurse (well, you get the point!). What a fun post! Thanks! Can't wait to hear if you suited up (uhm, I mean bra-ed up!) or went free! Have a great night!

You crack me up!
I got to be an at-home-mom for 7 years - it was awesome! =)
If it makes you feel any better, I do dress (sort of) for work (I work in an office at a school), but even "all put together", I'm not especially put together... Dressed & relatively neat is as good as it gets. And the minute I get home & on weekends it's jeans & T-shirts & no makeup. :-D

I just can't do it... I just can't get much past 8am without being completely dressed for the day and that includes a bra!

Murphy's law dictates that the one time you leave the house without a shower, without makeup and without a bra...either your car will die requiring a walk of substantial mileage in said attire or you'll run into half a dozen people you know.

There is also the little matter of the line of deliniation that gets crossed in there somewhere that currently separates 'us' from 'them'...those women that roll out of bed and go to the store with greasy bed hair thrown into an unflattering knot at the back of their heads, no makeup, and ill-fitting clothing or pajamas.

Coming from one who wages this same battle with myself most days, and feel hopelessly stuck in frump...my advice is to strive for fab, sister, strive for fab! Don't cross that line! ;0)

I am sitting here in my gray sweat pants, hubbys socks, and my WVU sweatshirt. Under the sweatshirt is the t-shirt I wore last night and all day today. I actually took a shower this morning but seeing as how we were gone all last week and I haven't gotten caught up on laundry, I had to put the sweatshirt back on. I used the theory that atleast under last night's t-shirt was a clean body.
My mom was the same way with primping. She used to shower, apply make-up, and fix her hair to take the trash out (no I'm not kidding). She was afraid that one of the neighbors might see her.
And I have to be honest here, I wanted to find my brass knuckles when I read the paragraph about the babysitter and the ice cream! haha

I had to work today... so bra required.

LOL no make up tho! Sometimes I wear make up most times I don't... hey, I'm a single mom that stuff is expensive!

But when I do wear make up, mascara & lipstick ... someone always asks if I have a date.

In PJ's now

but when I was a SAHM I was just like you are describing.

It's 9:18pm and I'm sitting at my laptop catching up on bloggin after being gone for 5 days to KY for Thanksgiving. We drove in from Memphis, TN to Dallas, TX today and I'm wearing no bra, velour sweat pants, my pink breast cancer awareness slippers, a thermal undershirt and a black long sleeved vintage fit shirt on top of that (both of them I wore yest.) to travel. I just wore them again today because I didn't want to pack a huge suitcase for the overnight stay in Memphis. Oh and I have a headband on, no makeup.

It's 9:44 in Chi-Town and I'm wearing a chenille sweater that has tons of loose yarn things. I'm only still wearing my bra because for some odd reason, when it comes off it's like husband thinks it's time to play, ummmn nooo!
The sweats I'm wearing are older than my niece who's 4, hair is back in a pony tail with my bangs held back with a bobbie pin.

100% different than what I looked like at 5! Once I come home it's goodbye office worker, hello frumpy Bee!

Okay, I'm a primper too. I do not look adorable in a cap and baggy clothes - I just don't!!! I wish I did, I'd love to just get up and go like some people can do. I'm working on that. Take care. Kellan

I am soooo laughing outloud right now......

went to my meeting - sweater, jeans, cute sneaks, perfume and lip gloss but sitting next to my hubby watching TV just now I did the "sneak-the-bra-out-the-sleeve" move and got THE LOOK!

hahahahahahah!!!!!!!

Nice Monday giggle for me...thank you! I got dressed today at 3:05 only b/c I had to pick up my daughter from school. And as luck would have it - I saw NONE of the power dressed moms! I wasted an entire outfit - ha, ha.

I work at home so I often don't get out of the fuzzy purple bathrobe. Except to take the kids to school, which usually requires sweats of some kind. Today I got all dressed up because I was supposed to be at the prison to interpret a pre-sentencing interview but then it got canceled at the last minute, so I got out of my pointy toed boots and suit and put the sweats back on. So much more comfy!

wow, i feel so much better after reading this. i have so many friends who work out of the home that they shower/dress/primp every day. and here i sit, unshowered for sometimes two or three days at a time (bc really, am i sweating here sitting a my desk? i think not), wearing usually the same sweats from the day before.

i've determined that the only reason i get dressed at all is so i dont scare the neighbors when i'm walking the dog. right now it's 8:42am. i'm wearing jeans, bra and a long sleeved T. but again, only bc it's 40° outside and i had to walk the dog. the bra is a must in that kind of weather. my hair is in a bun bc it wasn't washed yesterday. if i go to the gym tonight, i promise, i'll shower :)

but, if i go to the store/target, whatever, i'll put on power and mascara just in case i run into an ex boyfriend or something. but generally, i dont put on makeup unless i have a meeting.

i had a friend at the dogpark say the other day "hey, you're dressed. did you have a meeting?" HA! guess that says something.

Well it's 11:55 and I'm in mismatched pj's and brown socks, I still have my make up on, but I have my contacts out at least. I don't think that primped up woman looks like that all the time. I have one rule with my husband; going to the gym is the only time we go out in sweats. I feel great when I have put myself together. Crazy, though, it's the times when I'm at home in my sweats or worse! in my pj's and nappy hair that someone comes by...so then I wonder why I bother getting put together when I go out!

I forgot to tell you that this past weekend when I was visiting my sis in podunk KY I was waiting for her outside the local Walmart while she "ran in to get formula" for my niece and this lady literally had on a tshirt that had....something or other highschool state champs 1985. Ok, peeps you know it's time to toss out the tshirt when it's over 20 years old and your STILL WEARING IT.

Came over from Gingers site.

That is too funny!

On days when I'm just at home with my kids. I do the same thing. Except for I usually put on a bra...hehe.
Like today: I'm still wearing my sweats. I haven't washed my hair nor put on my makeup yet. But must do that soon as I have plans for tonight to be out of the house. So I must make myself presentable.

came over from gingers. What a riot! It's 4:18pm and I'm dressed, hair done, no make-up and no shower today. I had to lead Bible Study today.:-) On a day I'm staying home I'm grudging around, but I'll be sure to shower(if it's shower day) and dress and do my hair before he comes home. My husband is like yours he prefers me without make up. So I usually don't bother much.

I just came over from Ginger's blog...she recommended reading your post....loved it!

I do NOT wear make-up every day or do NOT fix my hair every day! I have been known to be seen in public with stained everyday jeans and t-shirts/sweatshirts but usually the only people that see me are the farmers and the business that work with the farmers! I don't think they much care about what people look like!

Great post!
