Acai Berry-Colon Cleanse Cocktail...

Have you seen this? This ad is everywhere and it sucked me in! I did my research, placed my order (although, I opted for the colon cleanse remedy recommended by my local hippie organic shoppe) and I am hoping for the best. I started this gig on Sunday and can I just tell you...the energy I have is amazing! Usually by 3 or 4 in the afternoon, I feel like I could lay down for a LONG WINTER'S NAP, if you know what I mean! I haven't even THOUGHT about closing my eyes until I climb into bed! I also have noticed a significant change in my overall clarity. I guess that is what you would call it. There's no fog. I feel alert and awake mentally. Apparently, studies show that food...typically meat...can get stuck in the nooks and crannies of your intestines for YEARS! Eww! Years!! That food ferments and rots and the poison from the decomposition of your 'tuna tartar' seeps through the wall of your intestines and enters your bloodstream. It's basically blood poisoning at that point. The effects of this can be felt by that foggy feeling, lack of energy, ailments that can't be diagnosed, constipation, forgetfulness, etc. So when your friends tell you that you are "full of %^&*("...you really are! Well, I am very please with my first 3 days on this program. I am barely hungry, I don't have the cravings I normally do. Anything that can cut out a craving for daily truckloads of chocolate is GOLD in my book! And, I have lost 4.5 pounds...since Sunday!!! I am 38, I will be 39 this summer. I am fed up with my yo-yo weight and have vowed to be HOT for my 40th birthday! I have a long way to go, lots of lypo and bodily transplants work ahead of me but how better to be held accountable than by BLASTING your goals through the WWW! Wish me luck. Tell me your weight loss goals and how mommy-hood throws a wrench in the works...there may just be a SHOW in the making and I need your responses!

Congrats on that working for you! I'm leery about stuff like this - I have IBS, that I control with diet. But anything with increased fiber intake and whatnot have me holding back a bit . I like to be out in the open and not stuck in the bathroom...

I have seriously considered trying something like that, but haven't known anyone who's tried it.

I'd like to learn more about what you're using and how it affects you, where you got it, and how much it costs.

Could you email me? (You should have my email address, but if you don't, leave a comment on my blog and I will send it to you)

Thanks!

Hi there....ok now I totally want to try this too! But, really, I came to your site because I also am a friend of Bob's over at PAC2. Thanks for letting him post our childhood cancer stuff. And by the way, are you from Seattle? I live in Olympia.

My mom ordered the Acai Berry pills that is advertised on FaceBook and got taken monetarily. She said the pills did NOTHING for her and they scammed her big time out of money. That being said, I'm leary of this kind of stuff too. How/where did you find it? How much does it cost? What other modifications have you had to make?
It's always better when you *know* someone who does something like this and it works so I'm willing to listen to what results you are finding!
Thanks!

Did anyone else click on the link and read the story of the 25 lbs weight loss? One thing bothered me. In the beginning it says she has 2 little girls and then down a little farther where it talks about the Acai Berry free trial, it states, "gives me tons of energy to use with my little boys and husband". Just curious if anyone else noticed and what your thoughts are. Thanks.

Carol from Iowa, i noticed that too.

Michelle can you go into more about the colon cleanse you bought. The one on the free trial isn't really free, you have to pay 78.84 10 days after the day you order it and im wondering if what you got at the store is cheaper.
Did you get the Acai berry from the link?? How long did it take to get to your house? The cheaper shipping is 7-14 days but the free trial ends at 14 days from purchase and your billed the amount for it. Did you get yours with time to try it before being billed???
Thanks

Hi Michelle,
I too saw that advertisement on Facebook and was intrigued, however, very leary so I didn't purchase it. Did you actually order from that site or something else? What is called? Can you give the exact specifics. As all the other women have said, I'd like to hear first hand from someone I "know" and then I'd be more inclined to try it.

Thanks for sharing! :)

Michelle-
I'm not a mom but I read your blog regularly. I am a friend of Peggy's. Like the others, I have read these things before but have been afraid to order. Will you offer details of what and where you got yours?

I'm about to turn 29 in Feb. So I am creating a list of 30 Things I Want to Do Before I turn 30. One of them is:
Feel comfortable in my own skin. Whether that includes losing weight, getting in better shape, or not... I just want to be able to look at myself and love me without being so critical of myself and pointing out all my flaws.

Can you give specifics on the products you're using. Sounds like something many of us could use!
Thanks! :)

I saw that ad the other day and most of the comments I could find not actually on the site were about getting scammed by being charged for stuff after they cancelled, etc. I'm interested in hearing more about your experience with it. If it really does work, I might be willing to give it a try....

Ok I so wanted to mow if this really worked. Guess it does!

I must try......I need to loose 10 pounds and firm up a bit. I have tried many times but can't stick to much.

Congrats on the 4.5lbs!!! I'd be so happy with that. I have a 5 yr old and 3 year old twin boys..My poor middle section and boobs will never be the same - hahahahahahahaa..ANYWAYS, we bought a treadmill and I've been run/walking a mile and a half every nite for 2 weeks..May not sound like a lot but when you haven't worked out in 6 years - IT'S A LOT!! I don't own scales, but may have to buy some in the next couple of weeks ;0)

♥Lisa♥ - That is exactly what happened to my mom. She admitted that she probably didn't read as closely as she should have but the "free" trial was basically up before she could get the product. You are correct, it's 10 or 14 (IDK) days from the day of PURCHASE that your *trial* starts. Then you get maybe 3 days to try it before having to hurry up and ship it back before time runs out. She was charged all that money, she called and complained, etc. They wouldn't budge. So, I guess my thinking is that if this is a product you can purchase in the store AND we know it works then it might be worth it, but don't get suckered into the online advertisements!

Michelle - looking forward to hearing more detailed info from you! :)

I take a colon cleanser--Nano cleanse. After day two I noticed the bloating went away...I didn't know I was THAT bloated. I think I lost 5 lbs in the first week.

Now I take it along with an energy suplement. IT helps me keep up with the kids for certain!

Wow, Michelle, that is great! Mommyhood sabotages weight loss plans because you spend all day putting out fires and don't have time to exercise or think about having a healthy diet. But, eventually the kids get old enough that you can say ENOUGH! MY TURN. You behave while mommy exercises, or else!

I ordered the cleanse and acaberry stuff and had to end up canceling my debet card (right before christmas..what a pain not having one to do online shopping for weeks!) so they wouldn't charge almost $80 for EACH...and would do so every month! the phone numbers they leave to contact them either aren't set up or no one ever answers so there is NO way of contacting them.
i would love to hear where you got your order from. i'm sure it does help to 'cleanse' our bodies of all that old yucky stuff...it HAS to make us function better!!

Written by a biologist-turned-author about the so-called colon cleanses and what we have inside us. Please read. Seriously. They are a con.

(copied from her blog to save your time) ...I don't know if they're all the same company under different product names, but they all have the same script. Their product, they assure you, will rid you of, "the ten to twenty-five pounds of UNDIGESTED WASTE that some experts say is stuck to the walls of your colon, like spackle or paste!"

This isn't the first time I've heard this quaint theory; I once visited a massage therapist who earnestly showed me a "scientific booklet" showing cross-sectional illustrations of the large intestine, looking like a kitchen drain clogged by ever-increasing grease deposits.

Now, look…

Were y'all not paying attention in Junior High biology, when the gross anatomy and general function of the large intestine were explained? Evidently a lot of people weren't.

For starters, stand in front of a mirror and open your mouth. You are looking at one end of your digestive system. Do you see food sticking to the back of your throat? I sincerely hope not. OK, do you know why food is not sticking to the back of your throat?

Because it is slippery! Yes, very good. And why is it slippery? Because the back of your throat (and the inside of your nose, just for good measure) is lined with a mucous membrane. That means the tissue there is equipped with a large number of cells that produce….yes, indeedy, mucus! Mucus is exceedingly slippery. Slimy, even. Stuff does not stick to it.

All right. Stop-press news here: your whole, entire intestinal system is lined by this same mucous membrane. If food isn't sticking at the top of your alimentary canal, it isn't sticking at the bottom, either. No spackle.

No twenty-five pounds of undigested food, either. Now, even if you take my word for it that "undigested waste" (which is a contradiction in terms; if it hasn't been digested, it isn't waste; it's just chewed-up food. Believe me, you would notice if you were excreting undigested food) is not sticking to the walls of your large intestine, it might be argued that if your colon were especially sluggish, glop might be lollygagging around in there, making you weigh more.

It might be argued, but that isn't true, either, and it's pretty dang easy to prove it. You know the colonoscopy that you're supposed to get when you turn 50, and every so often thereafter? Well, before a doctor goes sticking an endoscope up your rear end, he or she would like to make sure of having an unobstructed view. To this end, the preparation for a colonoscopy involves drinking a solution of a liquid containing magnesium, which is a powerful laxative. You can buy this stuff in any drug store; it's called Fleet, and it's utterly revolting. But effective. It will remove everything in your colon within a few hours. And if you—out of a spirit of scientific inquiry—should happen to weigh yourself before and after this process, you will note that you do not—alas—lose ten to twenty-five pounds. You might—temporarily—lose one. If you drink enough water to kill the taste, you'll probably—temporarily—gain weight.

If you have any doubts, ask the medical personnel who do your colonoscopy if they noticed any spackle-like deposits clinging to the walls of your colon. If they did, I bet they'd mention it.

I haven't looked at the ingredient list of any of these products—I've never even seen one in the flesh—but I'd bet money that magnesium is one of, if not the, main ingredient. Taking two 500 mg magnesium tablets (which will cost you about 6 cents) will do anything one of these colon-cleansers does, I assure you. (I take magnesium tablets for occasional migraines—along with three aspirin and a nice glass of white wine, plus a schmear of Tiger Balm on temples and under nose. Treatment for migraines is highly idiosyncratic; I don't recommend this for anybody else, but it usually works for me. But that's how I know about the other effects of magnesium tablets.)

Putting aside the question of their supposed physiological basis, which is utter nonsense, do these colon-cleansers actually work, in terms of weight loss?

Well, yeah, they probably do—if used as directed. My chiropractor (hey, writing for a living is physically destructive; I have major arthritis in my neck, and my spine looks like I'm playing Twister, even while sitting down) once tried one of these "cleanser" regimes, and was so enthused, he was recommending it to all his clients.

"Yeah?" I said. "What do you do?"
"Oh," he said, "it's easy! Three days a week, you just drink the cleanser crystals, in juice or water or whatever. I've lost ten pounds in a month!"
"Great!" I said. "And you eat normally while you do this?"
"Oh, no," he said. "You don't eat on the days you take the cleanser."

[pause]

"Jeffrey," I said, when he had stopped twisting my head, "you are losing weight because you've cut your caloric intake in half. You'd get the same effect if you just didn't eat solid food every other day."

He didn't believe me, of course. But I hope you will. Drink water, eat less (but whatever you do eat should have fiber), and save your money, is my advice. And listen to the BBC. It's soothing to realize that the world is bigger than Wall Street and Washington.

Staying on a planned food regimen definitely help to lose weight. Cut down all the junk foods and start eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. This will make way for weight reduction with phentremine, a natural appetite suppressant in a few weeks. http://www.phentermine-effects.com

Dr. Jason Simmons said...

Hello all. I'm a Surgeon from New York specializing in Gastroenterology, Gastronomy, Internal Medicine, Gastro-Oncology, Colon & Rectal Surgery. I have read this post and your comments. I can tell you for a fact that ALL of these Acai products you see, especially from these "fake" weight loss blogs are scams. If you read a few of them, you will see that the "comments" made at the bottom by other posters are virtually identical (they even have the same names).

I have seen many patients over the past year and a half actually get worse due to these inferior Acai and colon cleansing products.

Recently, my colleagues and I founded the New York Colon Review Board. Our aim is to educate the public and make sure that they use only top quality colon-cleansing products that are safe. We have spent over 8 months researching 62 different colon cleansing products in clinical trials involving over 4300 trial participants.

Only 3 out of those 62 products received our golden seal of approval. I hope that says something about all the dangerous and inferior products out there.

Please be smart...and stay safe.

Dr. Simmons speaks the truth, folks. These Acai pills you see on the review blogs are really scams. Even Oprah is suing them now.

It is true that the gunk left in our intestines adds 10-20 pounds. But Acai really does not do a thing for colon therapy.

There's only one that I would recommend: http://bewellbuddy.com/colonhealth

They give you a free 30-day trial, but they also send it for free. Free shipping basically. Plus it's not some single plastic bottle with pills. It's a 4 part formula which includes, pills, powder, AND a nighttime detox/cleansing tea.

That's what I've been using to feel lighter. Hope it helps soem of you too.
