A mom addicted...

I thought I had a problem...I questioned the time I spent doing it. I felt guilty. But I couldn't quit. Then I moved on to harder "stuff."

First it was FACEBOOK and now it is TWITTER! I need therapy!

I have thoroughly enjoyed facebook for finding old high school friends and sorority sisters! How awesome! It has also proven itself as an amazing networking tool. Many of my 300+ friends are agent and editors from around the country! Updating my status allows them to peek in on how I am coming with the projects I promised I am working on.

Twitter is just bizarre, though. I have collected over 1,000 tweeps but I don't know what to do with them. LOL! I just think it is a popularity contest that we play in our heads..."NA NA NA NA NA NA...I have more friends than you...." I question WHAT we can do with it?? I suppose as a freelance writer I could organize interviews, etc.

Either way, I use them too much, they make me stay up too late and sometimes I waste time on them thinking I am networking instead of jut putting pencil to paper and writing my next big idea! But it's fun and I am all about that!

But I tell myself I don't need them....I could do without them....no cold sweats...no shivers...

I just went to check Twitter...and got this...

Twitter is currently down for Planned maintenance. We expect to be back in about an hour. Thanks for your patience.

What??!!!!! Are you kidding me???! But I need to check my list...I need to see how many @ replies and DMs I have...

Addicted? Nope. Not me.

What do you use Facebook and Twitter for?

What do I use them for?

To escape!! ;)

I'm not as much into twitter (I have my account locked) but enjoy catching up with high school and college friends on fb!

I feel addicted too sometimes. In fact last night, I was trying to watch Lost, with laptop on lap, and I could not keep my eyes open. I felt like I would miss something if I just SHUT it down. Finally, I did just that, and left Lost to watch late. Guess what... the world did not end!

I agree wih Momma Roar, it's an escape. I feel like when I have something to say, and there is no one around me, at least someone might "hear" what I am thinking.

I like tweeting on our visits to the Disney Parks, which recently have been weekly. I can look back and see how long it took to do this or that... and maybe it's fun for some to read "live tweets" from Disney who knows! It gives me something to occupy my time when Tara rides Expedition Everest 5 times in a row!

I find myself "tweeting" now more than I Facebook. I like tweeting on my IPHONE, it gives me a reason to play (secretly I am just a techno geek!)

But your loosing time in your REAL life. How about your families and Real Friends. "Today is the first day of the rest of your life" don't waste it on a make believe world. GOD has given each one of use so many days on this earth, Please do not waist them playing in a make believe world. Life is too precious to ignore reality, its the Gift that GOD has given us, we need to appreciate his gifts and enjoy them, Children, spouses, sisters, brothers and friends, these are all real that you can touch, hold, love, and enjoy. Time passes to fast to be addicted to a screen and keyboard of people you will never meet. God has given us all we need in life to prosper and be happy. Instead of looking online for fulfilment, take a look around you. You never will have today over again, please do not waist it.

Anon is so right but I too have the FB addiction. For me it's connecting with old school friends & co-workers. I love to see & comment on the status updates & lately there's been this batch of notes going around that are interesting to read & to do. But I've had to go cold turkey on the games. I got waaaaay into a couple of them & they are just such huge time wasters. Click, click, click, click...and on & on.
I'm not a twitter'er though...it has something to do with texting & I'm just not into that.

I am addicted to Facebook (but only when I'm at work-oops! :) It's fun to re-connect with old friends and chat and keep up with friends and family (especially those that aren't local.) I'm not one of those people that "friend" strangers and such, just not my cup of tea. I do agree with what Anon said about not wasting too much time in front of the computer, life IS too precious. But as far as it being make believe and people you will never meet, that's not what Facebook is about. It's about people that you know and love, keeping in touch, etc.

I know NOTHING about Twitter, but I'm not much on texting either, so I guess that's why.

I don't twitter - I'm addicted to blogging and facebook way too much to add yet another addiction.
I love FB...I have found old friends and new friends, and I play some of the games on there, such as Dragonwars and others - its fun!

Hi. I'm Lori, and I'm a Facebook addict. (pause for "Hi, Lori.")

It's TERRIBLE, isn't it??? I haven't Twittered -- don't even want to get started! But FB? Oh, yeah. I'm all over it! It's great to reconnect with sorority sisters, old co-workers, high school friends, etc. But I DON'T get the people who you barely knew sending friend requests. I think there should be a common sense FB etiquette. But that's a whole other post, I guess!

You know what's really bad? I use FB for games, too. Terrible! I ROCK at Word Challenge (oh yeah -- over 22,000 points, baby!), and I'm sort of addicted to Pathwords, too. Hey -- at least they're highbrow, right??? :)

ummmm....*looks around*

Am I the only one in the comment section who doesn't have a FB or Twitter account?

I do have a MAJOR addiction to blogging though.

I think Anon made some great points but I have to disagree with the "make believe" comment. I've met (yes, in real life) some amazing mommy bloggers. They are true inspiration and I love having their support as we travel this journey together.

Speaking of inspirational moms and meeting them off the blogs...I hope to meet Michelle some day too!

Great post Michelle!

PS- I did try to open a FB account the other day and my name got rejected?! I am still waiting for their support people to get back to me. Weird but I think it might be a sign that I don't need another thing to keep up with! LOL

I recently came to be on Facebook and i find it quite addicting. It--and a morning cup of tea--start my day. My kidlets are older, so they have a phobia of 'friending' me on Facebook--as if I don't know what they do already!! (Moms have a sonar that can detect any misbehaving--even across state lines).
Twitter? I have an account, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to use it. Maybe you could send out a 'Twitter 101' blog for those of us that are just not getting it!

I use it to keep up with old friends, and to escape my real life, nothing wrong in that. Beats spending my real life ripping people apart in their blogs.
