Kate Gosselin and I: Crafting together...

(Originally posted on 10/22/09, I thought with the END of the Gosselin/TLC era, I would re-post one of my favorite Kate posts from the past)

~**~**~**~**~**~**~**~**~**~

I know, I know. You are thinking, "Where did that come from?"

Well, if you have been around this blog for any amount of time, you know that I am on TEAM KATE!

Especially, especially especially during this time of her life! Ugh! I cannot imagine going through a divorce and even more, I can't imagine it happening so publicly! My heart is with ya, sistah!

So, I decided on something that would take her mind off the "junk" people are putting out there because they have nothing better to do than bash people they don't even know…

A NEW reality show...Kate and mine…a spin-off of sorts. With my fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants creativity and her very structured nature, I think we could keep the ratings up and satisfy a major network simply on the fact that we would never be totally OK with the other one’s idea of fun.

But, we are adults, we are women, we would have a blast. I have a lot of friends and thousands of you reading my blog and from time to time you all think I have completely lost my mind. Like when I tell you the creative projects we get into at my kitchen table.

Having been a high school art teacher, messes don’t really freak me out. When we are working with supplies that won’t wash off, you know, the kind that stain your skin for a couple weeks, then we go outside. Easy.

My outlook is, “no medium will last as long as a tattoo!”

Our NEW reality show would highlight the fun you can have with your kids without having an aneurysm. With eleven kids on our heels, can you imagine the number of segments we could tape in a short time?

Unlike me, Kate is adamant about her hate for messes. She doesn’t do them. Ever. And quite honestly, with 8 kids, who would?!

In one episode, she and Jon take the kids to the Crayola Factory in Easton and she barely lets the kids try anything. Although, I totally respect her fear of messes (remember, I have lived with a fear-of-messes husband for 15 years), I have made it my mini-mission in life to show moms that Art doesn't always = messes. It is doable with the RIGHT supplies and an ample amount of planning ahead.

I did one of those projects with my youngest this morning and it was delightful. Not a messy hand in sight! My husband has a hard time with my messy tendencies. When it rains, we go outside and play in the mud. When it’s hot we have water fights...with our clothes on. We have even been known to have a small food fight or two.

Although messy and causing my husband a few small strokes, the fun we have will create life-long memories of family fun. It's good to see Mommy and Daddy getting messy and being big kids! Even if Daddy twitches a little.

In my “research” on reality shows it is necessary to have a couple things to be a long-running phenomenon. ]

One of the things on my reality show checklist is an interesting venue. A place that has never ending possibilities for interesting outings … check. Lancaster County is filled with fun and not-so-common-to-the-rest-of-the-planet adventures. I can see me and Kate overseeing a finger painting project using a horse and buggy as our canvas. I see a big sheet of paper clothes-pinned to the side of the buggy...of course the horse's tail will probably whip away a fly and get into the paint...oh that would add a VERY cool element to a kid-style painting! We could donate the “painting” to Hershey Medical Center to hang in the pediatric wing. Who knows, that horse could become famous! Elephants do it!

Talent is a definite must on my checklist and I think Kate has this covered. Any woman that can juggle 8 children day-in and day-out is Mom-of-the-Year in my book. And I have the creativity piece of our show covered! How cool would it be if the Gosselin kids and mine could do art projects and then we could have greeting cards printed with proceeds going to charity! I could write funny blog entries and illustrate each episode to give viewers juicy behind-the-scenes tidbits. People love that stuff! I LOVE THAT STUFF!!

Of course just the right amount of sheer chaos completes the recipe for blockbuster reality show. Just re-read the above paragraphs, close your eyes and visualize the opportunities for chaos. (although in my twisted brain I REALLY TRULY don't see it as chaos! Honest!) Mom viewers would love it. Well, maybe I just needed to talk myself into believing that as my 12-year anniversary of being stay-at-home mom approaches, I actually have a ‘marketable expertise’. Maybe I am distracting myself from cleaning. Either way, I think I may be onto something. Peace.

Please remember this post was written in JEST - something SILLY! If you are tempted to call me a STALKER, please click "next blog" and leave your nastiness elsewhere.

I watch John & Kate + 8 - because my 9 yr old daughter is totally hooked. I can stand a few episodes but not marathons like she can, lol.
Your ideas might be very interesting....I say go for it!

Love it - i'd totally watch your show.
I'm putting seasons 1 & 2 on my netflix queue - we refuse to pay for tv & living in a rural area that means you don't get tv at all.
Oh and Supernanny? I'm getting that Dvd this week - I SO need that woman! :)

I watch very little t.v. because I spend my free time reading your blog. LOL.

But J&K+8 is one of my favorite shows. I have friends who live in Shiremanstown that act just like them. I would watch your show, no doubt. It's a great idea.

I saw the Crayola Factory episode and thought it was a scream. I loved when she said 'this is for calm people and that's not me'. We don't allow markers. What?!!?

Great post.
Love T

I'd watch! Except I saw last night or the night before that they're moving! Now who will I look for when I run to Lancaster for yummy Amish food?

Well, if it doesn't work out with Kate, you can always call on me. I hate messes, too, and I have one more kid than she does.

I'm a lot like Kate. I wish I was a little more like you, but hey, that's what preschool is for. They get to get messy and I get to not have a stroke. I love watching Super Nanny with the kids and hear their comments on how bad the kids are acting. My 6 year old once asked me if it was real. I said, yeah, sad isn't it?

I'd watch your reality show. :)

Ha - Hopefully your tv show is a hit. My son likes that Jon and Kate show, that is his dream life - being in a family with 8 kids - but me, not so much. That's why I just have the one - I'm way too anal to survive anymore! I could definitely use a little of that art teacher spirit!

GASP!
I saw the comment from "Kate" in my inbox and my heart started to beat quickly....

Kate?
Kate?
She's emailing ME?

Wrong Kate but thanks for the comment! :) I'd be happy to give you some art-teacher pep talks!

It's always nice to dream, right? It might be a little over saturation of J&K+8 though if they did another show. I for one can't watch an entire show unless they are at Disney. My kids whine and it annoys the snot out of me so I can't stand to hear her kids whine on tv... whew.. it just grates on my nerves. No offense to J&K though.. kids just whine!

I'm not a mom and can't even imagine having ONE child, so I'm strangely drawn to J&K. It fascinates me! They must have crazy amounts of patience!

I love Jon and Kate! You are only half an hour away? I would totally drive by their house in a non stalkish way. You should email them, according to that one episode they answer!

Oooohhh...I know you posted a few days ago, but did you see last night?! She let the kids paint with pudding at the beach house. I'm with you...they're kids, they're washable. :P

LOL - I am a huge fan of Jon and Kate plus 8. I love your take on it. I give her all the credit in the world but now that they are getting older she might be able to relax now and then. My thought is she needs practice, and a good mentor!

If you get the show can I be a guest? I've got three stepkids plus three of my own. Our family calendar looks like the plan for getting ready for the shuttle to go into outer space, I'm totally anal about some things (especially relating to my 1 year old twins) but I can be crazy and have fun too. Oh but I hate finger paints, does that disqualify me?

I love that show...it makes my life seem so simple. You two together would be a hoot! I'd love to join ya, I'm a mess doer too!

Kate has no friends, Kate alienated Beth.
Kate has alienated her entire family, especially Aunt Jodi.
Kate is no Christian she is of Satan.

Sure Kate would hang out with you if you had something to give her. If not, not so much. And Beth is not on the show anymore, Kate ran her off when she was no longer useful. I also hesitate to call someone a Christain who belittles and undermines her husband at every turn

My gawd, Kate is a piece of work! I can't believe anyone watches this poor excuse for a show. I watched a couple of times and my eyes were searing with pain afterwards. This show doesn't set a good example for anyone except greedy people.

A horse rolling in paint on canvas? I think Kate has enough issues without PETA stepping in. :-)

This is the greediest, hypocritical, lying, abusing bunch of people on the planet. I hope the show ends very soon.

I love that just about every person who had something negative to say did not leave their name. Have some balls people, if you have a point of view stand by it, don't hide behind the internet! Use your name!

I've been following this internet "contoversy" for longer than I'd like to admit, and it STILL bugs the crap out of me when these people go looking for blogs with any positive words about the Gosselins so they can "pounce". Get a frickin life, people!

Anyway, I agree with everything you've said here(I followed a link to your most recent post) Sometimes I see these "haters" crying about something Kate did last week and all I can think is "gawd, if I were on tv I'd be so screwed."

Kate's got a lot of...quirks. That's what makes her interesting, imo. She's an opinionated bitch, like me(and everyone else I know these days) she just happens to have 8 kids. Don't get me wrong, the kids are precious, I just don't think the show would be near as interesting and fun to watch without Kate and Jon.

And btw, I am totally guilty of the "love taps". How anyone can get abuse from that is beyond me.

Isn't it great how the family gets to be on TV every week!! SO KOOL!

I don't get all the haters saying those kids should be in school. THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN SCHOOL! School isn't worth that much these days! They should totally take advantage of ALL the opportunities the reality circuit offers them!! I'd love to be all over YouTube like those little kids are!

What a cute couple Jon and Kate are. They are so in love!! He loves her so much he really knows how to make her happy, gotta listen to Mother Kate! she's EXHAUSTED!! and needs help!! She sure puts him in his place, huh?? a mom's work is never done!

and congrats to them on their new mansion! They needed more room for all those production people anyway. Hey that other house was too small for that kind of production! You've gotta adjust when your huge STARS like they are

WOW Guess the haters found this blog too...like the other poster said...love how they won't leave their name. LOL

Anyway.....

Love the idea of the show and I would totally watch it. I love anything crafty!

This is a super idea I think you and Kate would be perfect for!
